Deborah Gilbert

Deborah Gilbert serves as the City Clerk for the City of Lanett, where she is responsible for maintaining all official municipal records, supporting the legislative processes of the City Council, and ensuring compliance, transparency, and accuracy in the city’s administrative operations. Mrs. Gilbert is an Alabama Certified Municipal Clerk and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Point University. She has served with the City of Lanett since 2013, bringing with her a strong background in leadership and organizational management gained through 26 years as an Operations Manager in the telecommunications industry. In addition to her municipal duties, Mrs. Gilbert remains actively involved in the Lanett community. She currently serves as:

  • Clerk, Evening Spring Baptist Church
  • Vice President, Qui Vive Civic Club
  • Member, Lambda Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®

Mrs. Gilbert is the proud mother of two children, Charles and Reagan.

The City Clerk’s office is responsible for:

  • Council Meetings
    Preparing agendas for City Council meetings, recording and transcribing the minutes of these meetings.
  • Records
    Preparation, maintenance and distribution of all city records including resolutions, ordinances, meeting agendas, minutes, and cemetery records.
  • Elections
    The City Clerk is the city’s Chief Election Official and is responsible for the administration of municipal elections.
  • Utilities
    If you have a question regarding your utility bills or need other general information concerning utilities please contact the City Clerk.

The City Treasurer’s office is responsible for:

  • Maintaining the financial records of the city.
  • Accounts payable
  • Cashiers
  • Establishing and maintaining a variety of payroll and personnel records, completing other related reports, and providing general clerical support as required.
  • The City Treasurer works with the City Clerk, city department heads, and other city employees.
